A good example to understand superconductivity easliy

19209316611 eeb761568e o dSuperconductivity can be quite cumbesome to understand if you did not study physics. Concepts such as high current coated conductors, inexhaustible fusion energy, and nuclear magnetic resonance are not necesarily straightforward. Therefore, we decided to make a post about a event that made quite some noise in the field of superconductivity in the last weeks. Although this example is different from the applications of Eurotapes, it is worth mentionning it: A Real Hoverboard!

Last week, Lexus, th eluxury automative company, introduced a short teaser video for SLIDE, a hoverboard that perfectly illustrates what superconductivity can be about. A skateboard without wheel that seems to fly over the ground. Lexus' hoverboard relies on superconductors and magnets, which combine to repel the force of gravity and lift an object above the ground. The Lexus Hoverboard technology features two “cryostats” reservoirs in which superconducting material is kept at -197 degrees through immersion in liquid nitrogen. The board is then placed above a track that contains permanent magnets. Eurotapes' project partner Evico also mentions the story into a blog post on its website.
