In the 'Superconductors and Structure Materials' department super-conductors are developed and produced in form of wires and tapes. As the superconducting materials are often brittle and not easy to deform with swaging, drawing or rolling, the wires and tapes are produced in composite structures. These composite structures consist of the superconducting material and of materials serving for mechanical and thermal stabilization or electrical and chemical isolation.
